‘Youth Speaks’ competition

‘Youth Speaks’ competition

On Monday 16th January, pupils from Years 7-9 competed in the Youth Speaks competition organised by the Rotary Club and held at Birkenhead Sixth Form College.

The winning team, all from Year 9, comprised Alexandra Scott who gave the vote of thanks, Eleanor Hilton who was the chair and Rosie Anderson who was the main speaker.  The subject was ‘Ban the Burqa’ about which Rosie spoke eloquently and, by wearing a headscarf which she later removed, demonstrated how difficult it is to truly interpret responses in a dialogue when one person’s face is obscured.  The team's prize is a £15 book token each, to be guests of honour at a Rotary lunch held at Prenton Golf Club and to repeat their winning performance in front of the Mayor at Wallasey Town Hall.
