Nicholls Lecture Series - Dr Adam Boddison OB

On 28th September, Dr Adam Boddison, an Old Birkonian and Chief Executive for Nasen, addressed ‘The Truth About Inclusion’ to the Sixth Form. Through the use of statistics and examples from his personal experience, Dr Boddison presented the issue of inclusion and exclusion in the education system, from styles of teaching to standardised testing and its implications for those with special educational needs.


Nicholls Lecture Series - Ian Huntley OB

In the first lecture of the academic year on Friday 7th September, Ian Huntley, a former navy brigadier and Old Birkonian, discussed the differences between management and leadership, with an original outlook on the distinctions.


Team Birkenhead at the Wirral Half Marathon and 10k

The community of Birkenhead School came together this Sunday to form Team Birkenhead to run the BTR Wirral Half Marathon and 10k. Comprising of staff, students, parents and Old Birkonians, and showcasing their special red t-shirts, many had chosen to run in memory of Prep pupil Krishan, who was sadly lost in 2017.


Healthcare Conference Launches New Careers Initiative

Birkenhead School’s first Healthcare Conference was held at the end of April, implemented to expand provision of careers advice concentrating on individual professional sectors.


Nicholls Lecture Series – OB Henry Pugh

On Friday 2nd March, the Nicholls Lecture Series continued with a talk from Old Birkonian, Henry Pugh. An eye-opening open statement caught everybody’s attention before Henry went on to tell us of the struggles he has faced, and overcome in his life.


Nicholls Lecture Series – OB Chris Austin – Join the Civil Service and See the World

On Friday 16th February, OB Chris Austin gave a lecture to the Sixth Form about his career as a civil servant. He spoke about his visits to many places, such as The British Virgin Islands and Afghanistan, as well as his participation in the G8 summit.


Nicholls Lecture Series – Bishop Peter Ramsden OB

On Friday 9th February, the Nicholls lecture series continued with a lecture entitled 'Papua New Guinea: The Land of the Unexpected' which was given by Bishop Peter Ramsden OB.


Birkenhead School Careers Evening

The School’s biennial Careers Evening was held in Bushell Hall on Wednesday 31st January.  Pupils in Year 9 and above were invited to come along and talk to representatives from a wide range of careers about their jobs and find out about any qualifications and skills which are either essential or desirable.  Over 50 delegates, representing careers including, medicine, digital marketing, engineering, media and the Armed Forces, were present and our pupils certainly took advantage of this opportunity.


Boumphrey Lecture Series - Inaugural Lecture on Prep History, with Ian Boumphrey

On 19th January, the children of Years 5 and 6 gathered together for the first of the new Prep Lectures.


National Road Safety Week

In recognition of National Road Safety Week, Birkenhead School’s Sixth Form welcomed in Old Boy, Jeremy Williamson, to discuss road safety. As lead on Road Safety on the Wirral for Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service, Jeremy gave a very informative talk on the importance of road safety.
