Birkenhead School has, from its inception, enjoyed affiliation with the Anglican arm of the Christian Church. Historically, full time chaplains conducted daily services for pupils and staff which brought together the whole School community for the purpose of worship, reflection on the issues of life and engenderment of a sense of community.
Today, much of this tradition remains and can be claimed to be one of the strengths of Birkenhead School. Our chaplain is in School most days and seeks to build the relationship with pupils to offer support through the challenges and joys of life at Birkenhead School.
Currently, we have chapel time at the beginning of the school days for pupils of all ages at Birkenhead School, which is a precious opportunity to enjoy some peace, reflection, worship and discussion. All pupils come to chapel once a week. A broad range of topics is covered in the services we hold, from Christian insight into our daily challenges and relationships through to the search for truth and meaning, as well as the appreciation of the beauty of our world. Pupils will contribute to these services with readings or reflections.
We hope that what we consider in chapel underpins and inspires our learning in the classroom and contributes to forming responsible, tolerant and inquisitive young people, equipped to meed the demands of this world.
As well as our celebration and worship during the School day, we hold weekly Evensong services on Sunday evenings during term time. Our strong choir lead an act of worship on the behalf of our School community. Here we pray for the work of our teachers, for our students and our world. We also enjoy the company of many of our local clergy who come to support and offer their ministry here.
If you would value a moment's peace, please feel free to drop in and enjoy the ambience of our wonderful chapel building. Should you wish to contact our chaplain, Mrs Sian Howell-Jones, you can do so through the School Office on 0151 652 4014 or email: firstname.lastname@example.org.
