29 May 2018

On Wednesday 16th May, Prep and Senior students took to the Bushell Hall stage to represent their Houses in this year’s House Music Competition.

The theme of the evening was ‘Childhood’ and an excellent calibre of musical talent across the age groups was on display.

Excellently critiqued and judged by Music teachers, Mrs Keating and Mrs Coleman, points were awarded for technical excellence and performance quality, with links to the theme encouraged.

The Prep students were up first with the piano piece, ‘Nocturne in C sharp minor’ by Frederic Chopin, vocal performances of ‘Like I’m Gonna Lose You’ by Meghan Trainor and ‘My House’ from Peter Pan and even a student’s own composition, ‘Memories from Childhood’, played on the trumpet.

The Senior students were up next, with the Folk Band opening this class, following this was a vocal performance of ‘Writing on the Wall’ by Sam Smith, a violin rendition of ‘Polish Dance’ by Edmund Severn and a vocal group performing ‘Something Stupid’ by Carson Parks.

Following these individual House performances, was the House Song class which saw credit given for the number of participants on stage, with bonus points for Prep children and teachers, enthusiasm, links to the theme and performance quality.

This category saw Beresford performing an Avicii Mash-up, Bidston with their rendition of ‘The Bare Necessities’ from The Jungle Book, and The Beatles songs ‘Penny Lane’ and ‘Yesterday’ performed by Kingsmead (complete with uncanny impressions) and Shrewsbury, respectively.

Following much consideration from the judges after each performance, it was Kingsmead who swept the board with a hat-trick claiming them the winners.

Thanks go to everybody involved with setting up and taking part in this fantastic evening, showcasing the incredible breadth of musical talent across the whole School. All involved had a wonderful evening and thank you to all who contributed to the charities being supported, Door of Hope and Guild Cottage.
