10 September 2018

The community of Birkenhead School came together this Sunday to form Team Birkenhead to run the BTR Wirral Half Marathon and 10k. Comprising of staff, students, parents and Old Birkonians, and showcasing their special red t-shirts, many had chosen to run in memory of Prep pupil Krishan, who was sadly lost in 2017.

The windy weather at the start location in New Brighton brought its challenges for the runners, but they came out with excellent results and, most importantly, with smiles on their faces after having achieved their wonderful goals.

A notable family affair were Prep parents Dave and Heather Alcock, Dave finishing 4th in the marathon and Heather winning her age category in the 10k. Also coming out on top was staff member and parent Abi Phythian, who won her age category and came in as 8th woman in the marathon, and also Old Birkonian Rosie Durband who came first in the Under 20 10k.

We are also very grateful to the winners of the 10k races, Mark and Linsey Ryall who, on hearing about Team Birkenhead’s cause, donated their winnings to the team.

Amazing achievements all round and we are all very proud of everyone who took part. Thank you also to the many spectators who came to support the runners on the day.
