Chapel

Welcome to the Chaplaincy section of the School website.  I am Father Mark Turner, a Church of England Priest and the School Chaplain.  I hope that you find the following information useful and it will give you a flavour of what we offer within the School community.

Birkenhead School has, from its inception, enjoyed affiliation with the Church of England.  The Chaplaincy and our spiritual life are important to us as a community. We are a welcoming and inclusive community at Birkenhead School, working alongside students who come from different faith backgrounds. The Chaplaincy here offers support to all on their journey of life and faith.

Tradition is important to us at Birkenhead School and we therefore keep our weekly Chapel services for pupils from Little School through to Sixth Form.  This allows us the chance for congregational hymns, Bible readings, prayers and a homily.  We cover a broad range of topics, from Christian insight into our daily challenges and relationships, through to the search for truth and meaning, as well as the appreciation of the beauty of our world.  Students will contribute to these services with readings or reflections.

"Pupils demonstrate excellent levels of spiritual development."

Independent Schools Inspectorate Report

As well as our celebration and worship during the School day, we hold weekly Evensong services on Sunday evenings during term time, and a termly Eucharist service where our renowned choir from Year 5 upwards, lead an act of worship on the behalf of our School community. Here we pray for the work of our teachers, for our students and our world. We also enjoy the company of many of our local clergy who come to support and offer their ministry here.  In addition, we also offer bespoke services of Baptism, Confirmation and Weddings for alumni, staff and students.

I will always offer a listening ear to all members of our community on matters of faith, exams, school, family, work, friendships – anything really.  You will always find me in the centre of our School life with a friendly, warm welcome.

Birkenhead School's Charity Mission

Birkenhead School's Charity Mission

"At the time of writing in Michaelmas term, Birkenhead School has been a charitable agent for over £11,000 in money and over a tonne of food, gifts, toys, parcels and the like. We have moved like an army on a mission to bring about change. We have worked together, generously and lovingly. In this COVID year, this School has displayed such community care in an inspirational way. Thank you all for your efforts" - Father Mark
