The School ChapelFounded in 1882 and dedicated in 1883 by William Jacobson, Bishop of Chester, the School Chapel is still witnessing to unchanging values in a changing world.

Daily Chapel services are part of the routine of the pupils' lives, so that hymns, psalms and choral anthems, scripture readings, guest speakers and spiritual awareness are normal expectations rather than religious addenda. The School favours compulsory attendance at Chapel (while respecting the usual conscientious withdrawals) because it offers a climate of spirituality without indoctrination and Christian witness without blunt evangelism.

Extra Voluntary Commitments

If pupils wish, they may choose extra voluntary commitments. There is an opportunity, through Confirmation classes, for pupils to find a personal faith, recognised publicly at the annual School Confirmation service and at the weekly lunch-time Communion service. Within School, there are other avenues of spiritual exploration and possibilities for pastoral encounters with many dedicated staff, including the Chaplain, The Rev'd Canon Ian Davenport, Vicar of St Saviour's, our Parish Church and also the Rural Dean of Birkenhead. Most importantly, however, the Chapel is not master to the School but servant, sharing the School's educational responsibility to bring out the pupils' full potential. In the words of Irenaeus, the glory of God is a Man fully alive, or more simply in the School's motto, Blessed are the pure in heart.

Chapel Choir

The Chapel Choir brings delight to many pupils and parents who attend the Sunday evening services. The Chapel Choir occasionally sings services in Chester Cathedral and have broadcast on both local and national radio. Each year the choir spend a holiday either singing a week's services in one of the British cathedrals or making a concert tour abroad. In recent years the choir has visited Exeter, Truro, Prague, Florence and Venice.
