Although the School no longer has boarders, it is very concerned to maintain a sense of community and to develop all aspects of a pupil's character. To this end, involvement outside the classroom is valued highly and there is no sense in which the school day ends for everyone at 4pm, or indeed, on Friday evenings. This is as true in the Preparatory School as it is in the Senior School.

Diverse Activities in the Prep

Drama in the PrepThe Prep involves the children in many and diverse activities. They all take part at least once each year in performing a form assembly in front of the whole School. In addition to this, each term the children from the Prep take one of the services in Chapel to celebrate Harvest, Christmas and Mothering Sunday. They contribute greatly to these occasions by reading, singing in the choir or playing in the School Orchestra. At the end of the Summer Term when in Year 6, children take part in a full dramatic production specially scripted for the occasion.

Prep Music

Each March we hold a musical evening for parents at which the children treat us to a variety of performances both individual and group. This acts as a pre-cursor to the Bromborough Festival in which we take part, contributing musical and verse speaking items. Selected performances from this programme later go towards a concert which the children give for elderly parishioners. To complete our community input we also aim to hold one major fund raising event each year as well as donating Christmas presents to needy local children.

Prep Clubs

Chess is an extremely popular pastime and at Birkenhead Prep School it involves children each day of the week at Club level. We take part in local and national tournaments. There is similar enthusiasm for the weekly Art Club, Stamp Club, Railway Club, Science Club and Environmental Club.

Senior MusicSenior Music

Some 200 pupils take instrumental lessons and the resident Music Staff is augmented by some thirteen peripatetic teachers. Regular concerts are given by the First and Second Orchestras, the Concert Band and the Junior Concert Band. A particular highlight in recent years has been the Choral Society's performance at the Philharmonic Hall in Liverpool. This choir brings together pupils from Senior School, girls from the High School and an increasingly large group from parents.

Clubs

The wide spectrum of other clubs and societies includes two Computer Clubs (always seemingly over-subscribed), Art and Technology groups, Scouts, Science Projects Club, and the weekly seminar group which meets jointly with the High School every Tuesday.
