Sleep
Depending upon their age and needs, naps are encouraged during the morning and afternoon sessions. Staff talk with parents to understand the child’s home routines and maintain as much consistency as possible. For those children who do not require a daytime rest, activities will continue as normal away from sleeping children.
Toileting
Nappies and changing products are provided by the Nursery. Our youngest children are changed regularly in purpose built changing rooms which are fully ventilated. As they are ready, children are supported in using a potty and eventually a toilet. For our oldest children, cubicle toilets are available adjacent to their room and children are assisted until independence is achieved. Staff talk regularly with parents to support children in this stage of development.
Information Exchange
Parents know their child best and staff can learn about a child by listening to their parent and welcoming comments and observations. There are opportunities at the beginning and end of each session to tell Nursery staff about day-to-day matters concerning children. For further discussion it is possible to book appointments with the manager or deputy. Staff complete daily record sheets to indicate what a child has eaten, how they have slept and toileted. Older children are encouraged to talk about their day and are also given a daily record.
