Educated
at Queen Elizabeth’s Grammar School, Blackburn, John Clark read Modern Languages
at Exeter College, Oxford.
His first appointment took him to St Paul’s, London, where he taught French and German, organised numerous foreign visits and exchanges, set up a cycling club and also made his mark as a director of plays. In 1987 he moved to Whitgift School, Croydon, as Head of German, becoming Head of Modern Languages a year later.
He became Deputy Head at Birkenhead School in 1996 and was appointed Headmaster in 2003. Aside from his official duties at Birkenhead, he regularly accompanies the School’s Chapel Choir on its tours abroad and cathedral weeks in this country.
He has continued to direct plays,
including Beckett’s Waiting for Godot and Brecht’s Good Woman of
Szechwan.
