This Year we have had an Arkwright Scholar in the L6 studying AS Product Design. Tom Walker was awarded the Scholarship after sitting an examination and then attending a day of interviews and team tasks. We are awaiting the possibility of another award for Ben White in Y11, as the Arkwright Foundation is looking for a company to sponsor him.

Several L6 Students took part in the Engineering Education Scheme and were linked with a local company URENCO. The scheme provides students with an in-depth experience in science, engineering and technology that will enable them to make an informed decision about their future studies and career. They designed a means of attaching a vessel, which would normally contain radioactive material, to a cleaning unit.

Groups of students have been able to visit manufacturing sites this year as Mr. Parry and Mr. Higginbottom have taken them to D.M.M., a Karabiner factory in North Wales and to a local Precision Engineering Company G-Tech in Hoylake. Also planned is a return trip to H&O Plastics where extrusion and injection moulding of a range of products may be observed.
