- The physics laboratories have been refurbished to a high specification
and were officially opened by Professor John Dainton (Professor of Physics
at the University of Liverpool).
- The department’s ‘Science in the Community’ activities were featured in
an HMC publication entitled “i2 Innovation and Independence”. The article
highlighted the Science Fair and the work done to promote science within
primary schools on the Wirral. Linda Garner, Biology and Junior Science
Technician, is a finalist in the Salters’ National Award for Science
Technicians. Declan Gallagher, Charlotte Irving, Anish Pandey, Matt Sherlock

of the Year at the Royal Society in London. His research project, which
investigated the properties of the fragrances used in the laundry industry,
was well received.
- Edward Tam’s project, investigating the hydration of caffeine, won the
Chemical Sciences Prize at the National Sixth Form Science Conference and
was nominated for a Platinum CREST award. These awards are the highest
awards a pre-university student can attain. Martin Ince was commended at the
same event for his project which was the only entirely school-based research
project undertaken.
