6th Formers Visit to Jilile
Last
Summer, Jennifer Coates, Nicole and Gabrielle de Blaquiere (Birkenhead School
Sixth Form), Nathaniel Young, David Chesham, Jeremy Purdell-Lewis (Old Boys) and
Rebecca Graves went out to Msunjilile to meet the people and to find out exactly
what it’s like to live there. They took writing materials and exercise books and
taught some classes! They learned the customs and lifestyle of the villagers,
and they also visited the neighbouring village of Buguiry, went on safari and
finally stopped off at Zanzibar, relaxing on the beach and swimming in the clear
blue sea before returning. We hope to have more trips like this as it helps us
to find out what we are working towards. Interacting with these people is an
important part of our project
These pictures were taken in the classrooms at the school in Jilile. You can see how cramped and basic the facilities are and that many students have to sit on the floor. Click on the photograph for a larger image
