A tour party of 34 boys and four members of
staff visited some sites of the First World War between Thursday 26th May and
Sunday 29th May. A bleary-eyed tour party set off early on the Thursday morning
and eventually found its way to our hotel in Arras, northern France. On Friday
we visited a selection of sites on the Ypres Salient, including the famous
memorial at the Menin Gate where we stood in silent tribute during the Last Post
ceremony. We spent Saturday travelling around the Somme region, the scene of one
of the blackest days in British military history on July 1st 1916. A brief visit
to the tunnels and trenches of Vimy Ridge rounded off a memorable and often
moving trip
