Year 7 French Trip - 13th to 15th March 2003
Any older members of the school (including Old Boys) who read this will recall, no doubt that the Year 7 French Trip was great fun but the hotel accommodation was definitely not the highlight, whether it was our original hotel in Équihen-Plage or the more recently patronised Auberge du Maître Hans in Wimereux.
If the same older members had seen the quality of rooms enjoyed by our group this year, they would not have believed their eyes! All had been newly carpeted and redecorated, two had jacuzzi baths and the rest had hydro-massage showers!! It was barely recognisable as the same hotel. As the very nervous teacher in charge of 36 boys using these brand new facilities for the first time, I am delighted to report that they treated them with great respect and left the hotel in as good a state as we had found it.
We enjoyed three days of perfect March weather – bright sunshine and not a cloud in sight. The usual exercises and visits were thoroughly enjoyed by all – the hypermarket maths sheet (courtesy of Mr. McGuirk), the war graves visit (thanks to Mr. Roden and Mr. Sweeney), the markets, the cafés, the survey, the bakery and, of course, NAUSICAA Sealife Centre, which seems to get bigger and better every year.
A big thank you is due to the staff who worked so hard on the trip – Miss Smeaton, Miss Volkert and Mr. Sweeney – and to the pupils for responding so well to their encouragement.
