Year 7 French Trip 18th to 20th May 2006

60 Year 7 pupils and 6 staff set off early on Thursday morning for our annual 3 day trip to Northern France. As always, a very warm welcome awaited us in the Hôtel Cyprin in Wimereux which now boasts 2 stars and seems to improve the standards of comfort with each passing year.

Unusually this year, we had to contend with inclement weather, but nonetheless completed all the activities, including two outdoor picnic lunches, having found shelter from the 60 mph winds!

For a couple of years now, we have replaced the bakery tour with a visit to a sweet factory, simply because our group was too large for the usual bakery. This year we went to a different baker’s which was large enough to accommodate us all, and the boys were delighted to try their hand at making croissants again.

The usual exercises and visits were thoroughly enjoyed by all – the hypermarket maths sheet (courtesy of Mr. McGuirk), the war graves visit (thanks to Mr. Roden), the markets, the cafés and the survey. One of the highlights was the visit to Nausicaa Sea Life Centre with a brand new 4-D film (3-D plus real rain and wind!!), the touch tank, the sea lions and the brand-new penguins.

A big thank you is due to the staff who worked so hard on the trip – Louise Smeaton, Elaine Wilday, Bill McLachlan, Brian McGuirk and Martin Roden – and to the pupils for responding so well to their encouragement.
