On Thursday 28th September the Reverends Ian Arthan Davenport and Howard Bernard Eales were installed as Honorary Canons of Chester Cathedral. Members of the Birkenhead School community will know Ian Davenport best as our excellent School Chaplain. The service lasted from 5:30 till 7pm and some students went to support the Chaplain. It was a very traditional service, with lots of joyful singing led by the Cathedral Choir. The Right Rev'd Peter Forster (the Bishop of Chester) presided over the ceremony and the Dean installed the Canons-to-be. At the end of the service Canon Davenport, as he is now known, was ‘verged to his seat in the Quire.’ This is a huge honour for Canon Davenport and we know he is looking forward to this important role in the Cathedral. He is now one of seventeen Honorary Canons in the Chester diocese.
