All members of Year 8 travelled to Malham on Tuesday 22nd May for a day's fieldwork linked to their study of National Parks. The cloud and drizzle which heralded our entry into Yorkshire cleared soon after our arrival in this popular 'honeypot site' and allowed pupils to walk and work in lovely sunny conditions.
The fieldwork studies commenced with the measurement of the channel cross section and variations in the speed of flow at a meander on the Gordale Beck. Our route took us via Janet's Foss waterfall and Gordale Scar, ending at Malham Cove, where the pupil s studied the limestone pavements.
Mike Hudson, on his final visit to Malham before his retirement, led a high-speed dash back to the ice cream shop in Malham village where he enjoyed a tasty end to a highly successful visit.
