With the infamous ‘Oxbridge’ interview process seemingly more arduous and demanding than ever, Birkenhead School is proud to report that three students from the Upper Sixth Form have received offers – Michalis Migos and Nick Ramsbottom from Oxford, and Dave Pennefather from Cambridge.

Nick has received an offer to study Chemistry at University College, Oxford. Entranced by the grand architecture, Nick says that the interview process was the “most enjoyable experience of his life”, and that he was ‘simply over the moon’ to receive the offer, stating that “the course at Oxford is the most thorough and widest available; it’s more challenging than other courses and that’s what spurred me on to apply to Oxford”. Nick plans to enter the cosmetics business after university.

Michalis has an offer from St Peter’s College, Oxford, to study Biochemistry. In the interviews themselves, Michalis discussed the intricacies of Biochemistry, saying “the study of Biochemistry is not just the mixture of Biology and Chemistry as most people assume, it is the study of molecules in a detailed fashion, and this is what most intrigues me”.

David, our only Cambridge student this year, has an offer to study Chemical Engineering at Churchill College. Both of David’s siblings attended the university, and he is “humbled” to carry on the tradition. David says that he is “utterly fascinated” by the subject, and the fact that it “is constantly improving: there are no new formulas to discover, simply things to improve on”.

We’ve all got our fingers crossed that all 3 achieve the top grades predicted for them, and for which they are working so hard.
