Head of School 2009-2010
Philip Gwyn is our new Head of School for the academic year 2009-2010. He will be supported by Deputies Richard Kalayi and Emma Walshaw
Philip moved
from London to the notorious town of Neston at the age of 2, Phil spent the
ensuing years in an uphill struggle against strange
Wirralian stereotypes. However, following a revelatory discovery that he
had just the five un webbed toes, he was finally admitted to Birkenhead
School in Year 1. After receiving 9A*s at GCSE, Phil is currently studying
French, History and Biology, and chancing his way throughChemistry (somehow),
with a view to studying History at university. When not working, he spends his
time playing rugby for the School and Wirral Rugby Club, pretending to be John
Peel by listening to enormous amounts of music, and being with his friends, who
would describe him as (in the wise words of Bish): "the chief of fun...and, urmm...like,
really, really nice, you know?". Amen.
Richard, affectionately known within the Sixth Form as 'Reggie', is currently studying Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Geography at AS-level. Richard has been at Birkenhead School now for a whopping 14 years, boasts eight A* and two A grades at GCSE, and is hoping to study Medicine at University, at either Imperial College London or Sheffield University. Claims that he was probably elected as Deputy Head "purely because of his amazing hair" are, as yet, unsubstantiated, and may even come from Richard himself. When Richard isn't studying, he enjoys sleeping (carefully, so as not to mess up the hair), going to the gym (in an attempt to make the rest of his body as perfect as his hair), and going to the occasional social event (to show off his hair, it is assumed).
Emma, of Caldy, joined Birkenhead School at the start of Lower 6th. Emma
immediately made an impact with her 'zero-tolerance' approach to misdemeanours in
the Sixth Form common room, backed-up by a (some may say unnecessary) tendency
to pinch any offenders. After gaining nine A* and an A grade at GCSE, she is
studying Biology, Chemistry, Maths and Economics at AS-level, and is planning to
move to London to shop (and read Dentistry in her spare time). Emma claims that
she is "looking forward to whipping the rest of the prefect team into shape",
and is "very excited to read the Sports Results". Her hobbies include obsessive
cleaning, yoga, music and liberal Tipp-ex usage (although, admittedly, not at
the same time).
