French students bring cold snap.
There
used to be an old joke about Britain joining the EU. It went something like:
‘Now that we’ve joined Europe, does that mean we’ll get better weather?’ Well,
the arrival of students and staff from Fenelon Sainte-Marie in Paris heralded a
sprinkling of snow. The burning question is, did they bring it with them?
Well, apparently, no. Whether as a result of global warming (le réchauffement climatique ) or not, Paris has been decidedly short of snow recently. So it seems that this timely scattering is a purely home-grown phenomenon.
The visitors, who are in school until February 12th, were greeted by a bright, cold day at Liverpool John Lennon Airport. After lunch in the Dining Hall they took a quick familiarisation tour round the campus, which looked stunning under a pale blue sky, bathed with gold tints from the low winter sun. Imagine their delight, then to awake to a crisp layer of virgin snow, and to observe the efforts of staff to restrain the English Schoolboy from exercising his birthright by throwing snowballs.
Wise heads in the Geography Department predict heavy falls on Thursday, so it might be as well to remind readers that this website is your definitive guide to whether School is open or not in the event of serious quantities of snow and consequent transport paralysis.
There is a rumour going round that the snow was arranged by Marion Holgate, Head of French and Exchange Co-ordinator, especially for our visitors. Now, what’s the French for ‘No Comment…’
Pictured below are boys enjoying a "bit of fun in the snow" all supervised!
