Organisation
Staff
The Nursery is overseen by the Senior Management Team of the main school. The day-to-day running of the Nursery is the responsibility of the Nursery Manager and Deputy. Each age phase is looked after by Early Years Practitioners, led by a Room Supervisor. All staff are fully qualified and demonstrate enthusiasm in the care of young children.
Physical Environment
Children are grouped according to their age and stage of development. As they progress through the Nursery, they will be based in specially equipped rooms which meet their current developmental needs. As well as having lots of space to move and play inside the building, the Nursery has a secure outdoor area with natural shade where the children can enjoy fresh air whatever the weather. The recent addition of a covered baby outdoor terrace means even our youngest children can experience variations in weather and can be offered freedom to explore using their senses and be physically active and exuberant. Being situated within the superb grounds of Birkenhead School also gives access for walks and exploration of the local area.
Meals
The School kitchen prepares, cooks and delivers breakfasts, hot cooked lunches and hot cooked teas for the Nursery staff to serve to the children. All ingredients are fresh and produce is delivered to the kitchens daily. Mealtimes are an important part of Nursery life and, as such, great care is given to encourage socialisation, independent feeding, enjoyment of food and developing good manners. Menus are nutritionally balanced with input from the Nursery staff team & catering staff. As everything is made on the premises, specific diets and allergies are easily accommodated. Weekly menus are displayed so that parents can see what their child is eating. Children have access to water at all times of the day and also have set snack times during the morning and afternoon sessions
Health
The School Nurse is specialised in paediatric nursing, registered with the nursing and midwifery council and a member of the advanced paediatric life support group. She oversees all medical matters and is available on site daily to advise staff and support families. The children benefit from her expertise and knowledge of paediatric medicine and child development, enabling families to be reassured that great care is being taken of their child.
