Staying upright!!
The Unicycle Club, which meets on Friday lunchtimes, has really taken off since it was added to the School’s list of extra-curricular activities last year.
Under the guidance of seasoned unicyclist Mr Guinness, our Head of Design and Technology, the youngsters have been enjoying practising their moves on one wheel round the challenging campus.
“It may seem a somewhat unusual skill to teach young people, but as well as being hugely enjoyable it offers great physical and mental benefits. Research has shown that unicycling improves concentration, balance and motor coordination, and can play an important role in physical and mental development. The Japanese are such big fans that unicycling is commonly part of the school curriculum,” commented Mr Guinness, who taught himself to ride a unicycle during a university gap year. He is also proficient on the Penny Farthing.
The School’s Parents' Association provided funding money for the learner unicycles.
