Visit to Oxford

Our Year 11 Latin and Year 12 Classical Civilisation students had a wonderful study day at Oxford University

The Classics Faculty Outreach leader, Cressida Ryan, had put together a superb programme for our students. She fist gave them a very useful overview of Classics at University and in its context of future employment. We then enjoyed a tour of Oxford and its Colleges, finishing with a very tasty lunch at the marvellous dining room of New College. In the afternoon, the Admissions Officer for Brasenose, Dr Organ, spoke to our students about life at the college and, again, we had an extensive tour, including their marvellous library and their newly refurbished common rooms. He talked to them about the importance of being passionate about the studies the pursue, as this takes them a long way at interview! Afterwards, we looked at the exhibits at the new Ashmolean Museum, finishing with a lecture on Cicero and critical analysis of sources by Henriette van der Blom from Wolfson College.

Our students thoroughly enjoyed the experience and were excellent ambassadors of the school. I, for my part, always find visiting Oxford so good for the soul! Here are some photographs taken on the trip.
