Years 9 to 11

As students mature, they progress from Overdale to Year 9, where the challenge of GCSEs lies ahead.

In Year 9, studies continue in the majority of subjects taught through Overdale whilst students are encouraged to take more responsibility for their own learning by opting for four elective subjects. As students progress through the year, GCSE options are discussed and chosen for study through Years 10 and 11.

Year 10 sees the start of the GCSE studies, and each student follows their own individual curricular pathway with their elected courses and this continues into Year 11. Students are nurtured and supported throughout their time studying for the public examinations, and, of course, the full range of sport, music and other co-curricular opportunities is also available.

In Year 9, the three sciences are taught separately. The ‘core’ subjects taught throughout Year 9 are:

English Mathematics Biology Chemistry Physics
Geography History Religious Education   PE & Games

In addition, students opt for four of the following subjects, at least one of which must be a Modern Foreign Language:

French Latin Greek Computing
Spanish Art Music Technology

In Year 10, students continue with a number of compulsory subjects and select four others from a range of options. The compulsory subjects are:
