18 December 2018

The annual Christmas Concert was held on Thursday 13th December.  It was a fantastic evening that delighted everyone who attended and was a great celebration of music with performances from the whole School community.

The annual Christmas Concert is always a highlight in the School's calendar and this year was no exception.

Guests were entertained by the Clarinet Ensemble as they arrived and were then delighted by performances from the full range of orchestras and choirs we have on offer within the School.

Prep Orchestra started the concert with performances of 'Biscuit Club Boogie', 'Shrimp Society Samba' and 'Deck the Halls'.
Senior Choir, in which Senior students and staff members perform together, were next and sang 'She's Always a Woman' by Billy Joel.

The School's Wind Ensemble performed 'The Typewriter' by Leroy Anderson.

The Year 6 Choir then delighted the audience with performances of 'Heaven Has Opened' and 'King Herod's Blues', by Sheila Wilson.

The Senior Brass Ensemble then took to the stage and performed 'Winter Wonderland' by F. Bernard and arranged by M.Kingston.

Senior Orchestra performed 'Ballet' from 'Petit Suite', followed by 'Sleigh Ride'.

The Birkenhead School Chapel Choir, performed two beautiful renditions of 'Adam lay ybounden' and 'Kings of Orient'.

Brass Ensemble entertained once again with 'Little Donkey' and 'Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer' and were then followed by the School's Folk Bank who performed 'Sidlaw Hills / Kershaw's Hornpipe' followed by 'The Mason's Apron / An Dro'.

Big Band then entertained with a selection of songs including 'Chameleon' and 'The Girl from Ipanema'.  Sixth Form student, Esme, also sang a wonderful rendition of Billy Taylor's 'I wish I knew how it would feel to be free'.

Students, staff and friends of the School, then delighted the audience with an uplifting performance of 'This Is Me' from The Greatest Showman.

A wonderful evening with exceptional performances.  Well done to everyone involved.
