A visit to the 'Match of the Day' set, writing and filming a news bulletin, and watching the lunchtime news being filmed - these were just some of the unique opportunities students recently got to experience during the BBC Young Reporter Day at Media City in Manchester.

On Wednesday 6th March, a group of students from Seniors and Sixth Form had the opportunity to visit the BBC studios at Media City in Salford to take part in various workshops for BBC Young Reporter on a wide array of topics, from news reporting to advancements in smartphone technology.

They also had a tour, during which they visited the set of ‘Match of the Day’ and got to see one of the studios used for recording radio. What’s more, throughout the day some students were able to take part in unique experiences such as trying their hand at writing and filming a sports bulletin and watching the lunchtime news being filmed.

It was an incredibly interesting and informative day, teaching us valuable skills that are applicable to the world of journalism and beyond.
