10 June 2019

This week our Year 5 pupils have enjoyed a full day of activities delivered by MSE- Military Style Education. The activity days are designed to develop the pupils’ skills in areas such as team work and problem solving, whilst also being lots of fun! Read more about what they got up to here:

On Monday, our Year 5 children took part in a number of exciting activities down at McAllister Field. MSE – Military Style Education, delivered the activities. They are a team of ex-military mentors who support schools to enhance wellbeing in children. The activities develop transferable skills that the staff used during their military careers, including resilience and determination, which are important for the students as they transition to Year 6 and beyond.

'Obstacle Course'

The 120ft inflatable obstacle course was a firm favourite with everyone and the students competed against each other and against the clock to complete it. The students cheered each other on as they raced to complete the course in the fastest time. The chants could be heard across the field! This activity gave the students an opportunity to develop motor skills as well as their confidence.

'The Big Slide'

Tent building also took place, which required the students to work together as a team to construct the tent using the materials given. Their problem solving abilities were tested here and the students learned how every team member needed to play their part to complete the task.

Then the children got stuck into more problem solving and team building activities which involved crossing the field with a limited number of planks without touching the grass. There was lots of laughter as the children wobbled on the planks, trying to avoid falling off, and the enthusiasm of the children was praised as they completed this difficult task!

'Problem Solving'

The children had a fantastic time and learnt a lot about themselves and their teams.

Thanks goes to MSE for delivering the day of activities, and we look forward to welcoming them back next year.
