Team work, independence and confidence were just some of the skills developed by the Year 6's when they went on their annual PGL trip. PGL have been running children's holidays since 1957 and they offer fantastic opportunities to get into the outdoors and have an exciting adventure! This years' trip was no exception, filled with new challenges, new friendships and lots of laughs. Lucy Parfect has written her own account of the trip which you can read below:

'My PGL Trip' by Lucy Parfect, 6S

'On the 24th of April, Y6 went on PGL to Boreatton Park in Baschurch. Most of the year group stayed there for three days, making the most out of the outdoor experiences and opportunities put in front of us. We took part in activities such as kayaking, air rifle shooting and archery in our six groups of about ten. Our school was led by two instructors: Harry and Oreos.

Activities

Throughout the trip, we completed these activities: orienteering, climbing, kayaking, archery, giant swing, air rifle shooting and Jacob’s ladder. Also, we had evening activities; we had splash, and my favourite one which was giant swing; an activity of both courage and teamwork. My partner and I were lifted into the air via a rope pulled by the other members of our group (that is where the teamwork element comes into place). So, when we got to the very top it seemed quite unnerving for us, as both of us were petrified even though we tried not to let it show. As I pulled the string we fell and floated through the air for a few minutes before coming to a sudden halt. It was so much fun!

Food

Surprisingly, the food was actually really nice. With three meals a day and an enormous amount of choice, it was hard to complain. All of us ate in one massive canteen for breakfast, lunch and dinner, and could choose from a variety of foods including: fruit, salad, two different main meals, meals for vegetarians and a pudding.

Dorms and sleeping arrangements

For our sleeping arrangements, we stayed in dorms of around three to six people. Bunkbeds with mattresses were provided, but we had to take our own pillows and sleeping bags. We were in bed at around 9:30pm after our evening activities, with lights off at around 10:00pm.

Overall, I really enjoyed my time at PGL, and I can’t wait for our outdoor pursuits for the next few years in senior school!'
