10 September 2019

We were delighted to hold the first Choral Evensong of the new year sung by the Chapel Choir as part of the Old Birkonian Weekend celebrations.

We welcomed back Revd Steve Mansfield OB as our visiting preacher, and there were several other Old Birkonians in attendance, both in the choir and the congregation. The choir were on top form, singing music by Thomas Tallis and Charles Villiers Stanford, and the Introit was conducted by Organ Scholar and Head of School, Dionne Lee – who also played an organ voluntary before the service!

Services take place in Chapel every Sunday during term time, and are open to all members of the school family and local community. Refreshments are served from 6pm in the Headmaster’s Dining Room next to the Dining Hall. Do please come along, especially if you have never heard the wonderful choir.

Alongside the regular services of Choral Evensong, the choir will be singing a special Russian Orthodox service of Great Vespers on 29th September led by local Orthodox priest, Fr Paul Elliott, as well as a Sung Eucharist for Harvest on 13th October.
