10 October 2019

Well done to our boys and girls in Prep who received their Wirral Civic Awards at Wallasey Town Hall.

This Year has seen growth within our Civic Award achievements with over 43 children taking part in the award. 17 Children took the entry Level Fender and 26 children continued through from Fender Award to achieve Arrowe Level. The scheme is beginning to build momentum through school, reaching from Year 1 through to Year 4.

The children have to complete a number of tasks over several months that develop their skills in areas such as:-
Sompleting a local awareness project.
Demonstrating their wide use of leisure
Providing a service to others
Developing their self-reliance.
Progress in an area of physical achievement.

The children were all invited to meet the Mayor of Wirral at Wallasey Town Hall on Tuesday 8th October where he presented the children with their awards. Alice Jones from 2H presented the Mayoress with a bouquet of flowers (She had been helping Granny with the Church Flowers as part of her service to others element of the award) and Daisy Jones 4C read out a piece about the local area that she had learned from her Nan. Margaret Jeffs from 4H had her project shown to the audience. It was a night to remember! The children are all immensely proud of completing the Fender and Arrowe levels of the award.

Miss Harris commented that she was incredibly proud of the children. They have worked so hard over the past school year to be good citizens and the standard of the individual projects that they have produced was really very high. Miss Harris said “ I am looking forward to them embarking upon the second and third levels of Civic Award known as Arrowe and Birket from after October half term and I also have a brand new cohort of 21 Year 1 and 2 pupils eagerly waiting to start. It is a tremendous initiative and something I am very proud we can say we are a part of”.

With rising numbers Miss Harris has had to recruit some help as we seek to grow the initative through school and so Mrs Coyne will now be taking ownership for the levels in Juniors starting with Birket. Miss Harris will continue to oversee Fender and Arrowe Levels.
