This summer has seen us successfully host three softball cricket tournaments, all at our MacAllester playing fields.
By Mr Jackson, Cricket Coach
At the first tournament, our Year 5 team played as well as local primary schools who also competed. This allowed over 60 boys and girls the chance to experience our brilliant facilities and the sport of cricket.
Following on from that, we hosted two girls' softball tournaments - one for the under 12s and one for the under 13s. This saw 9 schools in total come from far and wide to compete. A great two days was had by all, with some impressive skills on display from the young cricketers.
This has been the second year running such festivals, as interest amongst girls' cricket continues to grow at a rapid pace. There is a level of enthusiasm that simply cannot be ignored, as we continue to provide opportunities for girls to get involved in the sport.
On top of that, our Under 13 girls' team had a successful day out at Upton Cricket Club in the Cheshire Cricket Board softball festival, where they qualified for the finals day which will be held at the end of June.
This year has also seen record numbers of girls in years 7 and 8 attend cricket training after school, with coaching provided by a full-time Cheshire cricket coach. The growing popularity of the game amongst girls is truly inspiring to see.
