Students were delighted to return for a new academic year to greatly enhanced facilities that had taken place over the summer months.

A lot of work has been carried out to continually update and improve upon the facilities here at School; most notably is the work carried out on the dining hall facilities and the Sixth Form CafĂ©, which corresponds with the Catering Team transferring over to Chartwells Independent. We still have the same fantastic team but now with the facilities and support of a specialist catering company behind them – and one with great experience of providing independent school food.

Other work that has been carried out on the School and our grounds is as follows:

Overdale – The building has been painted and now benefits from a new roof which has allowed for sliding roof panels to be fitted, which will be used to full effect by the Astronomy Club as part of the School’s co-curricular programme

Floodlights – The addition of floodlights on the netball courts now extends the possibilities for our sporting teams
Sports practice area – We now have a new, AstroTurf area on the main School campus, in addition to the facilities at McAllester Field, where our students can train for sporting events

Kingsmead Car Park – There is now an improved car parking area off Kingsmead Road

Prep Gym – There is now improved storage in the Prep Gym for housing all of our sports equipment, as well as new wooden double doors for accessing the gym

Music Practice Areas – With new doors fitted to music rooms, this has added further practice areas for students and their tutors to use

The Lodge – The main entrance area has been refreshed with new doors and a wonderful, glass entrance door as you enter the building

Dining Hall/Chapel steps – The flight of stairs leading to the Dining Hall and the Chapel have now been improved

Pirate Ship – The popular Pirate Ship play area between Little School and Pre-Prep has now been updated and is complete with blue rubber safety flooring and safe wooden railings to complement the ship

Nursery – The visitors’ cloakroom in Nursery has now been fitted out with new washroom facilities.

Headmaster, Mr Vicars is delighted with the new changes and facilities, “The improvements that have been made over the summer months are wonderful additions to our School. It’s important to ensure continued investment into what we offer here at Birkenhead School to make sure our facilities and campus add to the educational experience our students enjoy”.

We hope you enjoy the new updates and additions and we’d like to say a huge thank you to Carl Williams and his fantastic Estates Team who have helped make all of these improvements possible.
