Music

Music at Birkenhead School is lively, varied, and, most importantly, fun! There is an ever-growing range of choirs, bands, orchestras and other ensembles to cater for all tastes and abilities.

Music Opportunities - Mr Robinson, Director of Music

From our robed Chapel Choir, who sing Choral Evensong every Sunday, to our student-led Music Technology Club, there really is something for everyone.

It is considered that the provision of a wide range of co-curricular activities is of fundamental importance to the musical life of the School and involvement in such activities may have a profound and greater effect than the formalised class music teaching within the main School curriculum.

"Music is essentially a practical activity; a means of self-expressions and an opportunity to develop character and self-confidence."

Mr Philip Robinson, Director of Music

It is vital that this is understood both in the provision of co-curricular opportunities but also in the organisation and construction of the classroom syllabus.

The Music Department has a full staff of instrumental tutors who give individual tuition in a wide variety of instruments to students throughout the School. Students joining us from elsewhere are given the opportunity to begin learning an instrument or to continue studying an instrument they have taken up at their previous school.

Involvement in co-curricular music-making is strongly encouraged at all ages.
