Sophy Henn, award-winning children's illustrator and author, visited the Prep to talk to children in Years 1 to 3 as a part of our Inspiring Talks series.

We were delighted to welcome Sophy Henn to the School on Thursday 6th June as a part of our Inspiring Talks series in conjunction with Linghams Booksellers in Heswall.

Sophy came to speak to the children all about her latest book, Bad Nana: All the Fun of the Fair, the second book in the Bad Nana series. This new laugh-out-loud story follows Jeanie and Bad Nana on their annual family trip to the fair and is gorgeously illustrated in vibrant colour throughout.

Sophy is an experienced and talented children’s author and illustrator with her debut title, Where Bear? being shortlisted for both the AOI Illustration Awards 2014 and the Waterstones Children’s Books Prize 2015. Her subsequent titles have gone on to great success, and Sophy was chosen as the World Book Day Illustrator in 2015 and 2016.

Sophie enthralled, enthused and entertained the audience with snippets from the book that is told through the eyes of 7 ¾ years old Jeanie. As well as stories how the feisty, funny character of Bad Nana was created.

During the talk, the audience (adults included!), were shown how to draw their own 'Bad Nana' step by step. It was a delight to see all of the children listen so attentively and then be so excited with their own creations.

At the end of the event there was a ‘Question and Answer’ session where the children could quiz Sophy on the book and her life as an author. The children asked some great questions including ‘How do you get a book published?’ Clearly there were some budding authors in the audience!

Sophy is the latest speaker in the School's Inspiring Talks Series.  Recent guests have included Kate Humble, Jeffrey Archer, First Sea Lord Admiral Sir Philip Jones, Sir Tony Robinson and Clare Balding. To read more about the series please click here:
