Congratulations are due to our Year 6 netball team who became the England Schools Champions for Merseyside last week! Birkenhead School came top of the leader board, in a competition which brought together over 30 schools from across Wirral and Merseyside. The event which was sponsored by Liverpool ONE, took place on Thursday, June 13 and saw each school represent different countries competing in the Netball World Cup this year.  Birkenhead were flying the flag for Singapore.

We are so proud of how well the whole team played and the determination they showed throughout the tournament.

Please continue reading to hear what the Prep Netball Captain, Eve Sewell, had to say about the day’s events:

"Last week, the Year 6 Netball Team went to the England Netball Schools Competition in Liverpool. In the group stages, we won five matches, conceding 11 goals. We lost one game to Our Lady Star of the Sea 6-3. We then played the semi-final against Williston, and we won 3-2. The final was against Our Lady Star of the Sea, We were determined to beat them second time around. Our excellent skills and team work meant that we won 8-6 in a really competitive game we couldn’t believe we won to become England Schools Champions for Merseyside! We got a trophy and tickets for the World Cup Netball Finals in July. Thank you for Mrs Hilton and Mrs Sewell for making this event possible, and also taking us to McDonalds!"
