We recently welcomed Old Birkonian and Marketing and Media expert, Paul Weedon, to the School to deliver a Nicholls Lecture to our Sixth Form students.
By Mia J, Lower Sixth student
Paul has a wealth of experience in media due to the many different roles he has had to date in his career.
Paul told us how he started on his career journey by DJ-ing at a few local pubs at the age of 17, eventually becoming the bestselling shopping TV-host for QVC at 26. Later on, he became Head of Broadcasting for an LA based firm and enjoyed a glamorous life in Beverly Hills for nearly three years.
Paul then founded a global talent agency at 32, working with big names such as Tom Holland, Holly Willoughby, James Cordon and Johnny Depp. He also told us fascinating stories about footballers such as Ronaldo and Messi during the lecture lunch.
Paul owned this firm for 11 years and was based in London throughout. He told us how he enjoyed the exciting life of London and encouraged us to consider it in our university choices.
Now at 48, he is Newcastle based and works from home. Due to lockdown making an impact on his new career path, he now utilises his 25 years of on-screen communication expertise as a Video Communications Coach. During the lecture Paul gave us some especially useful tips and advice on online calls, when we need them for online interviews or lectures.
It was a lecture everyone learnt from and thoroughly enjoyed. He brought energy and passion to the talk, making it memorable and interesting. We would like to thank Paul for taking time out of his busy life to come and speak to us.
