A Day of Discovery and Adventure in Little School
At the end of every half term, our Little School pupils step away from their usual timetable to immerse themselves in our Enrich & Explore programme, with plenty of time dedicated to our much-loved Nature Explorers programme too.
The Enrich & Explore programme is designed to go beyond what other schools may offer covering subjects such as STEM, Community, Creative Arts, Diversity & British Values and Mindfulness and Wellbeing. Outdoor learning is at the heart of our curriculum, and Nature Explorers, our innovative in-house programme, helps children connect with, appreciate, and understand the natural world around them.
Reception kicked off their day with a brisk (and rather chilly!) spring walk, eagerly searching for the first signs of the new season—budding flowers, fresh green shoots, and chirping birds. Back in the classroom, they captured their discoveries in beautifully illustrated Nature Explorer logbooks before diving into a range of nature-inspired activities and exercises.
From Reception to Year 4, pupils progress through different Nature Explorer levels—Little Acorn, Young Sapling, Mighty Oak, Park Keeper, and Park Warden—earning certificates to celebrate their achievements. Using our fantastic outdoor spaces, including Forest School, the allotments, and our wider school grounds, each child embarks on hands-on adventures that nurture curiosity, resilience, and environmental awareness.
In Year 1, the focus was on British Values and Cyber Safety, alongside a mindful journey into relaxation and breathwork exercises, helping children develop emotional awareness and well-being.
Meanwhile, Year 2 let their imaginations run wild as they designed their very own boggarts and fairy houses. They sketched their magical creations before heading into Forest School, where they gathered twigs, pinecones, and leaves to bring their designs to life using clay and other natural materials.
It was a day filled with creativity, exploration, and hands-on learning, and we can’t wait to see where our next Enrich & Explore adventure takes us!
