In Little School (Reception to Year 2), children take part in weekly music lessons with a member of the Music Department and spend part of the year learning basic instrumental skills together with one of our team of visiting music tutors:
In addition, a growing number of Infants children begin individual music lessons, mostly piano and violin.
By the time pupils reach Junior Prep, approximately two thirds of have instrumental or vocal lessons with a peripatetic teacher, with some pupils learning more than one instrument.
Within group lessons, children learn how to play the recorder and use their recorders as well as untuned percussion instruments in class compositions and performances. As they progress into Years 5 and 6, pupils use keyboards as well as tuned and un-tuned percussion instruments in compositions and performances as well as their own instruments and voices.
Children in Reception to Year 2 perform at least twice a year in their Christmas Show and Summer Production.
Juniors have the opportunity to sing on numerous occasions at special events during the academic year, such Harvest Festival, Christmas Carol Services, Christmas and Summer Concerts, Class Assemblies, Open Days, Prize-Giving and at the Schools’ Concert held in Liverpool Philharmonic Hall.
There are also termly serenade concerts that take place for children performing up to Grade 2, where children from Reception upwards can perform.
