This stage of a child’s education is about discovery – finding and nurturing interests, talents and passions. We provide lots of opportunities to encourage the pursuit of individual talents and interests from an early age so children can grow in confidence during their time in Prep and the foundations for success in later life are firmly established.
Little School (Reception to Year 2)
Pupils benefit from a diverse and comprehensive curriculum that includes Modern Foreign Languages, Sports, Art, and instrumental Music lessons. These subjects offer a strong foundation for learning, enriching their educational experience and preparing them thoroughly for the next stage of their journey in Junior Prep.
Juniors (Years 3 to 6)
The Junior years provide great opportunities for children to participate in an increasing range of exciting activities which will broaden their school experiences through sport, music, art, drama and club activities.
Nature Explorers (Reception to Year 4)
Nature Explorers is our own, innovative programme designed to help children understand, explore and appreciate the outside world. Using our wonderful outdoor areas such as Forest School, allotments and wider school grounds children work through different levels in each year group from Reception to Year 4.
Enrich & Explore (Years 1 & 2)
All pupils within Years 1 and 2 complete our innovative ‘Enrich and Explore’ programme which is unique to Little School and Birkenhead School.
Future Skills (Years 3 to 6)
Pupils within Years 3 to 6 progress to our ‘Future Skills’ programme that offers opportunities to our students, both within and outside the curriculum that go over and above those that may be available elsewhere.
Eureka Academic Extension Programme
Our Eureka Academic Extension Programme serves to provide extension activities, both in the classroom and beyond, that challenge the students’ understanding and ability to practically apply their knowledge.
PSHE (Personal, Social, Health & Economic Education)
Within the PSHE programme in Prep, we encourage positive character traits such as resilience, confidence, self-esteem and determination and we equip pupils with the knowledge and skills to understand and manage difficult situations. Pupils learn how to recognise and manage risk, make safer choices and recognise when pressure from others may threaten their personal safety and wellbeing. They can also learn effective ways of resisting pressure and where to seek help.
