Careers Month 2026

Sunday Times Schools Guide 2025 - Independent Secondary School of the Year North West

Careers Month 2026

Here at Birkenhead School, we are deeply committed to preparing our students for life beyond the classroom through a dynamic and highly personalised Futures Programme. At the heart of this provision is our dedicated Futures Team, who work tirelessly to support every student in exploring their ambitions and navigating the many pathways available to them.

This commitment was brought to life throughout the entire month of March, as our Futures Team hosted an extended programme of Futures events to mark National Careers Week 2026. Rather than a single week of activity, the school delivered a full month of engagement, inspiration and opportunity.

Highlights included a Virtual Careers Fair, Futures drop-in sessions, and the flagship Careers Fair held in Bushell Hall. These events provided students with invaluable opportunities to engage directly with professionals across a diverse range of sectors, including healthcare, law, finance, engineering, aviation and the armed forces.

We were delighted to welcome an outstanding line-up of speakers and organisations who generously gave their time and expertise. Contributors included Dr Keri Nixon, Consultant Forensic Psychologist; Andrew Potts, easyJet Captain; Ben Gavin-Pitt, Airbus Lead Design Engineer; and Julie Simms, Solicitor. They were joined by representatives from leading organisations such as the RAF, the University of Liverpool, Wirral Met College and Lloyds Banking Group, among many others.

Together, these events provided students with meaningful insight into career pathways, higher education, apprenticeships and work experience opportunities. Most importantly, they empowered our students to take confident and informed steps towards their futures.

Through our carefully structured Futures programme, students benefit from one-to-one guidance, tailored mentoring, and a wide range of workshops covering everything from interview techniques and CV writing to university applications and apprenticeship routes. The Futures Team ensures that each student is equipped not only with knowledge, but with the confidence and skills needed to make informed, ambitious decisions about their future.

Our provision is further enriched by strong partnerships with industry professionals, higher education institutions, and our global Old Birkonian network. From guest speaker events and networking opportunities to work experience placements and internships, students gain real-world insight into a broad spectrum of careers. Access to leading universities and international pathways ensures that every student can aspire without limits.

We’d like to extend our sincere thanks to all those who supported our Futures Programme throughout March. Their generosity and expertise played a vital role in making this month-long celebration of careers such a resounding success, and in helping to inspire the next generation as they look ahead to life beyond school.
