A Level Results Propel Birkenhead School Students to Top Universities and Careers
Our Sixth Form students are again celebrating strong A Level results, and now proceed on to higher education opportunities, competitive apprenticeships and gap years at top institutions and destinations both in the UK and worldwide.
Headmaster, Paul Vicars, comments: ‘It is with mixed feelings that we see this year’s Upper Sixth depart. They are a hugely talented and happy cohort, one known for their diversity and breadth of contributions across so many areas of School life, be it sporting, music or numerous creative pursuits. It is these experiences and grasped opportunities that have been pivotal to the pathways they now take, guided by the bespoke guidance from the School’s Futures Team. Over 95% of students who have chosen university or apprenticeships as their pathway have secured places: these range from apprenticeships with the BBC and multinational law firms, to degree choices as diverse as Aeronautical Engineering to Astrophysics, Classics to Criminology, Medicine to Media Production, and Stage Management to Sports Management.’
‘Today’s results and destinations are testament to the hard work of the students and to the professionalism and talents of all staff. I also wish to pay tribute to our families whose support of the School and the inspiring education we aim to provide, leads to deserved outcomes like todays. I truly believe that an investment in a child’s education is the very best investment families can ever make, and a Birkenhead School education, recognised by the Sunday Times as 2025 Independent Secondary School of the Year in the North-West, is one where we are committed to all-round excellence, and balance.’
Mr Vicars continues ‘I say this every year, and make no apology for doing so again, but while we rightly celebrate the pathways these students now take, perhaps the most important outcome from a Birkenhead School education is the self-belief, resilience and skills that these students now take with them on their individual journeys. Many have overcome considerable adversity along the way and knowing that they can overcome challenges and still deliver at the highest level will stand them in great stead as they now join the extensive global network of Old Birkonians.’
‘These days, the very best schools deliver on all fronts – strong academic results alongside a richness of sporting, musical and creative opportunities that provide students with the leadership and life skills to be happy, confident and prepared for life beyond school. These remain the hallmarks of a Birkenhead School education and one that is leading to increased competition for Senior School places at the Year 7 entry point.
