New Infants’ Library Opens in Little School!

A brand-new Infants’ Library has officially opened its doors in Little School — a vibrant new space designed to inspire a lifelong love of reading in our youngest learners.

The library came to life from what was once a disused cloakroom, lovingly transformed into a bright, welcoming haven for books and stories. The idea began with a simple but passionate vision: to give the room a new purpose that would directly benefit the children.

Mrs Ford, Head of Pre Prep Little School, commented; “I’ve always believed that reading is the foundation of all learning, It has always bothered me that the children in Infants didn’t have a dedicated library where they could enjoy reading purely for pleasure — so the project was born!”

With generous support from the Parents’ Association (PA) and funds raised through a whole-school readathon as part of last year’s World Book Day celebrations, the dream quickly began to take shape. Pete from the Grounds Team built beautiful new bookshelves, while the IT department helped to install library software — complete with a real-life library scanner for the children to use! Soon, books, bean bags, and vibrant reading displays were added, and the space was transformed into a fully functional library ready to welcome eager readers.

Special thanks go to everyone who played a part in making this dream a reality — particularly Lorraine Taylor and Chantal Broadhurst from the PA for their unwavering support, Lucy McConnell for her invaluable help, Jamie and Graham from IT for installing and setting up the system, and of course Pete from the Grounds Team for his incredible craftsmanship and dedication.

The Infants’ Library stands as a true labour of love and a shining example of our school community working together. It captures everything we value — creativity, collaboration, and a shared commitment to nurturing a love of learning in every child.

Here’s to many happy hours of reading ahead!
