Charity Week 2026

Sunday Times Schools Guide 2025 - Independent Secondary School of the Year North West

Charity Week 2026

Our Heads of School went above and beyond to make the School’s first-ever Charity Week truly unforgettable — and what an incredible week it was! From thrilling sporting showdowns to inspiring creative showcases, from generous donations to the good-natured soaking of staff, there was something for everyone to enjoy and support — and, best of all, every moment was imagined, organised and delivered entirely by the students themselves!

Throughout the week, our school community came together to raise an incredible £2,400 — £500 more than our original target! Every single penny will go directly to supporting three remarkable charities:

  • Heswall Disabled Children’s Holiday Camp
  • The Oaks School
  • Claire House Children’s Hospice

A Soaked but Smiling Start

We kicked off the week with the ever-popular “Sponge the Teacher” event. Students eagerly lined up for the chance to channel their enthusiasm (and perhaps a little mischief!) into a thoroughly soaked sponge. Cheers erupted across the playground as teachers embraced the fun — despite the rather chilly 5-degree weather!

Dress Up and Donate

Day Two saw students and staff proudly wearing green and blue — the colours of our chosen charities — for “Dress Up and Donate.” A £2 contribution from participants helped boost our fundraising total while filling the school with colour and community spirit.

Football Fever

Competition heated up during our thrilling 5-a-side football tournament, as teams battled it out to be crowned the ultimate dream team. Even the Head Master joined in the excitement! Students also had the unforgettable opportunity to challenge Mr Vicars in a penalty shootout — a moment that will certainly be talked about for some time.

Creativity Takes Centre Stage

Wednesday was a celebration of talent and creativity.

Our Year 6 pupils showcased their artistic flair with a cake decorating competition, producing designs that were almost too impressive to eat. Later, the Birkenhead school Talent Show brought the house down, with performances ranging from energetic acts to a truly moving solo from a Year 7 student that earned a standing ovation — and a few proud tears in the audience.

The evening concluded with an exquisite Art Auction, featuring original pieces created by our talented students across a variety of styles and media. The standard of work was exceptional, and the generosity of bids reflected the admiration in the room.

Charity Fair Fun

Thursday’s Charity Fair was filled with laughter and friendly competition. One of the standout stalls — “Guess the Teacher’s Baby Photo” — proved a huge hit, raising £70 alone! Well done to year 7 student, Georgia, who ran the stand completely on her own raising the funds.

A Big Finish

We ended the week with a bang — and another round of sponge-soaked teachers! The celebrations concluded with a lively Quiz Night, where friends and family tested their knowledge across rounds including Sport, General Knowledge and Anagrams.

A Community Effort

Raising £2,400 is an extraordinary achievement and a testament to the generosity, energy and teamwork of our entire school community.

A heartfelt thank you goes to everyone who participated and donated — especially our brave teachers who endured the cold soaking, and our incredible Sixth Form students who organised the week so brilliantly from start to finish.

Charity Week 2026 will certainly be remembered — not just for the fun, but for the difference it will make.
