Today, we are celebrating record A Level results. Almost a quarter of all grades achieved were A*, with 62% at A*-A.

Headmaster, Mr Paul Vicars, commented: ‘Birkenhead School is not a school driven by data, nor the hot-headed pursuit of grades at all costs; instead, we believe in students being inspired both in the classroom, and in their sporting, creative and wider co-curricular pursuits where so many life skills are learnt and friendships gained.’

‘Today’s results are testament to this philosophy, to the hard work of the students and to the professionalism and talents of all staff. I also wish to pay tribute to our families who trust in the School, and whose teamwork with us over so many years, often since Nursery, leads to deserved outcomes like today’s. I truly believe that an investment in a child’s education is the very best investment families can ever make, and a Birkenhead School education is one where we are committed to all-round excellence, and balance.’

A levels provide the gateway for students to progress onto the next stage of their educational journey. An exciting feature of the bespoke advice provided by the School’s Futures Team is the diversity of routes that the students now take following today’s results. From Computer Science to Chemical Engineering, Medicine to Mechatronics, Accountancy apprenticeships with PWC to Army Scholarships, Art Foundations and Artificial Intelligence, students will now take up some of the most competitive degree and apprenticeships places at institutions across the UK.

Mr Vicars continued ‘While we rightly celebrate the pathways these students now take, perhaps the most important outcome from today’s results is the self-belief, resilience and skills that these students will now take with them on their individual journeys. Many have overcome considerable adversity along the way and knowing that they can overcome challenges and still deliver at the highest level will stand them in great stead as they now join the extensive global network of Old Birkonians.’

As this year’s cohort depart, September will see the School welcome the largest Sixth Form for over a decade. While approx. 140 Sixth Form students remains small by the standards of many local schools, the bespoke and focused support, both academic and pastoral, and the co-curricular and leadership opportunities that such a size enables is a hallmark of a Birkenhead School education, and one that plays its role in today’s results.

For those wishing to find out more about a Birkenhead School education, including means-tested bursary support, information can be found on our website.
