Amy is a chartered psychologist and a lecturer in forensic psychology at Liverpool John Moores University and University of Liverpool. Her expertise is in adolescent development and risk-taking behaviour. Her research focusses on exposure to sexualised media and harmful online content, and how this influences attitudes and behaviours of adolescents.
Body Image- Dr. Amy Wood
During the Lecture, she recognised and emphasised that boys also suffer from negative body images portrayed online- Not only girls. She gave eye opening examples of how impactful negative body images can be. In some cases leading to people using plastic surgery and makeup to the point of being unrecognisable- shocking the students, helping stress the importance of having a good body image. Additionally, She showed students the reality vs the media portrayals of celebrities. She reflected the advancement in technology, giving statistics of how most AI images were unrealistic, adding to her list of how hypersexualized and warped media has affected people. It was an insightful leture that the students enjoyed.
