Prep Prize Giving 2026 – Birkonian Week
Yesterday, Prep families gathered in the marquee to celebrate the achievements and successes of our Prep pupils as part of our Birkonian Week celebrations. The Prize Giving ceremony recognised pupils` outstanding contributions across all areas of school life, including Sport, Academics, Music, Art and the wider life of the School.
It was a pleasure to welcome our guest speaker, @lizziewaterworth, the acclaimed voice actress behind much-loved children`s programmes including Horrid Henry and Alphablocks. Much to the delight of the audience, Lizzie brought several familiar characters to life with a selection of fan-favourite voices.
Having spent the day with our Prep pupils exploring her new book, How to Talk So People Will Listen, Lizzie delivered an inspiring and engaging speech about the importance of perseverance, practice and self-belief. Her message encouraged pupils to embrace challenges, have confidence in themselves and never be afraid to find and use their own voice. It was a wonderfully funny, relatable and uplifting conclusion to the day, and we are incredibly grateful to Lizzie for sharing her time, enthusiasm and wisdom with our school community.
Congratulations to all of our prize winners and to every pupil who has contributed so positively to Prep life throughout the year. We wish all of our families a restful and enjoyable summer break and look forward to welcoming everyone back in September for another exciting year!

Yesterday, 33 KS3 art students received certificates and art badges for being ‘Amazing Artists’. These are students who show commitment to the subject across the year and cover areas such as assisting others, meeting deadlines and taking risks, as well as being strong creatives. After a busy and competitive season, our U18 girls finished their campaign at the Cheshire County Finals last week. Facing some of the strongest school teams in the county, the girls showed great determination, teamwork and resilience throughout the afternoon. Against tough opposition, their effort and commitment never wavered, and they represented the school with real pride right to the final whistle.
A special mention goes to our Upper Sixth players, who pulled on the school shirt for the final time. Thank you for your leadership, commitment and the example you have set for the younger players over the years. We wish you all the very best for the future, you will be greatly missed in the hockey programme.
🎭 Yesterday marked our final exam performance of the academic year as our Lower 6 Drama & Theatre Studies student presented her Component 1: Theatre Workshop Performance.
For this assessment, students are challenged to reinterpret a play of their choice through the lens of a chosen theatre practitioner. This year, she reimagined Waiting for Godot in the style of Marianne Elliott, drawing on Elliott’s innovative use of technology, collaborative theatre-making processes, and imaginative storytelling techniques.
A huge thank you to the students who took the time to come and watch, and to the staff who joined us to offer their support.
Another big thank you goes to our non-examined candidates who both performed and provided technical and backstage support 🌟 The commitment and enthusiasm you demonstrated throughout the process was wonderful and greatly appreciated.

Sports Awards 2026
A wonderful time was had by all on last night when the School community came together to celebrate the sporting successes of Birkonian athletes over the last year.
The evening was a showcase of the sporting talent on offer across the school with awards such as Player of the Year, Most Improved Player and Coaches Award presented to students.
It was a great opportunity to celebrate successful seasons in our focus sports and beyond, and it was inspiring to hear what the teams had accomplished over the year with each captain giving a summary of the season.
The evening culminated in a drinks reception provided by our brilliant catering team.
We’re so proud of the students and we can’t wait to see what the next School year brings for #TeamBirkenhead.
