Nature Explorers

Sunday Times Schools Guide 2025 - Independent Secondary School of the Year North West

Nature Explorers

Outdoor Learning plays an important role within the education offered at the School.  There is an ever-increasing amount of research that highlights the importance of children connecting with nature and spending time outdoors. By utilising the natural environment and providing some inspiring places for outdoor work, we have been able to provide unique and meaningful learning opportunities for the children.

Nature Explorers

Nature Explorers is our own, innovative programme designed to help children understand, explore and appreciate the outside world.

Using our wonderful outdoor areas such as Forest School, allotments and wider school grounds children work through different levels in each year group from Reception to Year 4. The activities are designed to teach new skills and understanding each year. For example, the children may learn how to tie and use different knots in Forest School, how to grow and care for plants in the allotment, work collaboratively to create a minibeast hotel in the school grounds, all recorded at each level in their own logbook.

At the end of each level children will be presented with their own certificate, showing they have achieved either the Little Acorn, Young Sapling, Mighty Oak, Park Keeper or Park Warden level.

Royal Horticultural Society School Garden Award

We are proud to have achieved a Level 3 RHS School Garden Award. To be awarded Level 3 the children had to show that they can grow and name a range of plants, that they keep plants healthy and are planet-friendly gardeners.
