Seniors Prize-Giving 2025 – Birkonian Week
We brought the summer term to a close in the most fitting way — by celebrating the incredible achievements of our Senior students at our annual Prize-Giving ceremony.
The event opened with thoughtful speeches from Mr Vicars and Mr Cashin, Chair of Governors, followed by emotional and inspiring words from our outgoing Heads of School — a reminder of the character and leadership they`ve shown throughout the year.
Highlights of the ceremony included:
-Presentations of Outstanding Academic Achievement Prizes
-Birkenhead School Honours Awards
-Long-service gifts for valued staff
-Stunning vocal and cello performances from our talented students
-Announcement of the 2025–26 Heads of School and leadership positions — sparking real excitement for what lies ahead!
One of the most moving moments was watching our Sixth Form leavers walk through a ‘guard of honour’ formed by staff and families, before joining together on the school field for a sun-soaked drinks reception and delicious food, courtesy of our brilliant catering team.
To all our prize winners — congratulations! And to our leavers — thank you for the memories, and best of luck as you begin your next chapter.

We are delighted to announce that tickets are now available for our Summer Concert!
Our end of year Summer Concert, taking place on Tuesday 1st July, will feature a range of performances from our larger ensembles from both Prep and Seniors. The programme will include Senior Orchestra, Prep Orchestra, Chapel Choir, Senior Choir, String group and more.
Entry is free but we asked that you reserve your seat online using the link in our bio. We will also leave the link in our story highlights! Drinks and refreshments may be purchased on the night at the cash bar.

Good luck to Old Birkonian Liv Wimpenny as the countdown to the 2025 Chengdu, CHN world games takes place! This is key preparation for the LA Olympics 2028 for Lacrosse 6s. Hope it goes well Liv from everybody @birkenheadschool @oldbirkoniansociety @englandlacrosse
The World Games features Lacrosse Sixes, with six players per team on the pitch. `Sixes` brings the excitement and speed of Lacrosse in a smaller, faster, more accessible format. Games are played in four 8-minute quarters. The game incorporates a ‘shot clock’; once an offensive possession begins, the team must take a shot on goal within 30 seconds. The team scoring the most goals wins the match.
If the score is tied after regulation time, then there is sudden-victory overtime, which lasts until a goal has been scored.

They explored several stimuli earlier this year, including a number of children’s books.
They chose Alice in Wonderland, and through exploration of practitioners have developed their own performance. Practitioners such as Splendid Theatre Company and Gecko.
